WRDA moves through House

The House has passed legislation that updates the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) for the next two years.

The Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act, which includes WRDA, was approved by a wide margin and authorizes about $12 billion in new construction projects and $170 million for the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.

Passage by the Senate could be as early as today.

Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director Mike Steenhoek says the legislation is appreciated, but it is not the finish line.  “The Senate has expressed some discontent with the House version of that continuing resolution appropriations measure, but if that does get passed then funding will remain consistent from what it’s been this previous year.”

Once authorized, appropriations committees will need to approve funding for prioritized projects and initiatives which hasn’t happened in the multiple years that the bill has passed Congress.
