Wolle would bring water quality background to NCGA

A south-central Minnesota farmer says he’d like to use his experience dealing with state water quality regulations to help agriculture in other states.

Minnesota Corn Growers Association president Harold Wolle is seeking a position on the National Corn Grower’s Corn Board.

He tells Brownfield Minnesota’s new Buffer Law has caught the attention of farmers across the country.

“I was busy this winter and spring advocating for agriculture.  Advocating for a fair Buffer Law that ends up being effective.  I think some of the lessons we learned in Minnesota are transferrable to other states.”

Over the last two years, the Buffer Law has been amended by the Minnesota Legislature and will be enforced beginning this November.

It requires 50-foot buffers around all public waters in the state, and a 16 and-a-half foot buffer for all public drainage systems.

“Other states are going to deal with the same issues.  Water quality is important across the nation, so everybody is going to have to learn how to participate in programs that work to improve our water quality.”

Wolle has served on Minnesota Corn’s board of directors nearly five years, and is one of six candidates vying for a seat on the National Corn Board.
