Wheat export inspections stay ahead of year ago pace

The USDA says that as of the week ending July 18th, 2019/20 U.S. wheat export inspections remain ahead of the 2018/19 marketing year’s pace. The 2019/20 marketing year for wheat got underway June 1st and 2018/19 for corn, sorghum, and soybeans runs through the end of August.

Wheat came out at 433,117 tons, up 84,598 from the week ending July 11th and 3,820 higher than the week ending July 19th, 2018. The top weekly destinations were Algeria and Malaysia. About a month and a half into the 2019/20 marketing year, wheat inspections are 3,393,362 tons, compared to 2,661,352 in 2018/19.

Corn was reported at 438,045 tons, down 252,382 from the previous week and 889,501 lower than this time last year. Mexico and Japan were the primarily destinations. With about a month and a half left in 2018/19, corn inspections are 43,609,681 tons, compared to 49,825,192 late in 2017/18.

Soybeans were pegged at 559,462 tons, 295,915 tons less than the week before and 168,677 below a year ago. The leading destinations were China and Mexico. So far, this marketing year, soybean inspections are 39,278,790 tons, compared to 51,708,497 last year.

Sorghum inspections totaled 60,913 tons, a decrease of 605 on the week and an increase of 48,260 on the year. The bulk of the week’s shipments were to China and Mexico. 2018/19 sorghum inspections are 1,831,003 tons, compared to 4,798,773 in 2017/18.
