Wet pattern needs to end for east-central Minnesota farmers

A seed company account manager says farmers in east-central Minnesota are concerned about continued wet weather.

Rob Wentz with Peterson Farms Seed tells Brownfield frequent rains throughout the growing season have caused stalk diseases in corn.

“Soybeans all look pretty good though, so I think all-in-all we’re going to have a pretty good year.  But wet…water, water, water has really been the challenge this year.  And as we’re approaching harvest now too, we really need for it to dry out.”

He says soybeans are maturing quickly and combines should be rolling by the end of the month…if conditions allow.

“Some of my dealers have been saying (harvest will start) more like early October.  And unfortunately it all comes back to what I said earlier (about) this rain needing to give us a break so we can actually get out in the fields and get the beans eventually.”

Brownfield spoke to Wentz at the Peterson Farms Seed field day near Fargo last week.
