Wet fields cause more Minnesota planting delays

The cool and wet weather continued to slow down spring planting in Minnesota last week.  The USDA’s National Ag Statistics Service says less than two days were suitable for fieldwork, but wet field conditions kept many farmers from making progress when the sun did shine.

Topsoil moisture is rated 70% adequate and 29% surplus.

Only 21% of spring wheat is planted.  Oats are 38% planted and about two weeks behind last year.  12% of the corn is in the ground.  Thirty percent of the state’s potatoes and 47% of the sugar beets are planted.
