Warm weather gives domestic meat demand a little bump

A livestock market analyst says the early start to spring has given domestic meat demand a slight bump.

Scott Brown with the University of Missouri says warmer temperatures have given consumers a green light to start grilling.  “Many of us are looking for that first opportunity to get outside,” he says.  “When you look at many parts of the country where normally they might still have snow on the ground and the fact that the grass might be green in some of those places reminds us that we are starting spring pretty early and that may have given us some nice demand pop that we haven’t seen for a while.”

But, he tells Brownfield, “That might mean demand is not as robust later in the spring when we normally would start to see that start to grilling season.  Brown says we’ll have to wait and see how that plays out in the longer term.
