USDA officials are on the ground and in the fields

Top USDA officials have fanned-out across the country to get a first-hand look at drought damage. Under Secretary for Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services, Michael Scuse started out surveying frost damage in Michigan two weeks ago; he has since viewed drought damage in Ohio, Indiana and Wisconsin. He says the visits not only give them a grasp of what people are facing out here but also a chance to see what can be done to make USDA programs work better.
