USB sharpens vision

The new chairman of the United Soybean Board (USB) says challenging times mean a more focused vision for the soybean checkoff.

Jared Hagert of North Dakota says the USB’s new long range strategic plan will focus on three areas:  Meal, oil and sustainability.

“These goals are built around areas we see the most potential for USB to work towards its mission,” said Hagert. “And that mission is to maximize profit opportunities for all U.S. soybean farmers by investing and leveraging soy checkoff resources.”

Hagert says the strategic plan also identifies goals for supply and demand.

“We have two goals in supply centered around sustainable production and technology, in marketplace we also have two goals that deal with infrastructure and value,” Hagert said. “And in the demand segment there is five goals, they are related to meal, oil, industrial uses, sustainability and food exports.”

Other USB officers elected include Vice Chairman, John Motter of Ohio; Treasurer, Delbert Christensen of Iowa; and Secretary, Jimmy Sneed of Mississippi.
