USB directors look toward improving soybean meal

U.S. soybean growers are looking at ways to make bean meal better.  A South Dakota United Soybean board director says investing checkoff funds into quality improvement is something worth supporting. Lewis Bainbridge is a South Dakota board director, “Particularly in the area where we farm in South Dakota, we’re accused of having a lower protein soybean meal so we’re working on enhancing that. Not only genetically, but looking at other programs to not only validate that but help us increase the energy of the soybean meal.”

Lynn Rohrscheib, an Illinois grower and USB board director, tells Brownfield the idea is to invest in growing markets for U.S. bean meal overseas and domestically, “And to where we can maybe make the meal better for the utilization for our livestock.”

The two directors were among others at the United Soybean Board meeting in South Carolina last week.
