Trump to name Perdue to run the USDA

Various media outlets are reporting President-elect Donald Trump will select former Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue as the next Secretary of Agriculture on Thursday (later today).  According to the Wall Street Journal two transition officials say the selection will complete Trump’s cabinet ahead of the inauguration on Friday.

Perdue, an original member of Trump’s Agricultural Advisory Committee, was one of the first names to surface as a possible pick for the top USDA post back in November.

Other candidates under consideration were Democratic Senator Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, former California Lieutenant Governor Abel Maldonado, and former Texas A&M University president Elsa Murano.

Ron Moore, president of the American Soybean Association says soybean growers look forward to working alongside the USDA under nominee Perdue to serve American soybean farmers in the most effective manner possible.
