Study: Precision farming could be next ag revolution

A new study says digitization could spark the 4th agricultural revolution. The study, from consulting firm A.T. Kearney, describes how technology could enable the feeding of an additional one billion people within the next 10 years.

The study projects opportunities to bundle technologies that provide services to growers, from selecting crops to optimizing planting times, seeding rates, and fertilizer applications.

The report says, however, that slowing population growth, regulations, and consumer concerns about agrochemicals and high-intensity farming will result in a slowdown in growth rates of agricultural demand.
