Several tornadoes ripped through north central Illinois late Monday evening causing significant damage to several communities.

Jesse Faber’s family farms near Sublette, Illinois roughly 100 miles west of Chicago.

He says his family was lucky.  “There is some damage to some buildings,” he says.  “It’s amazing how selective a storm can be.  My dad lost a machine shed that was about 3 years old and lost a couple of out buildings.  One of our neighbors had a grain leg fall down and a couple of grain bins collapse.”

As for the crops, Faber says the stand seems to be pretty solid.  “I think the extent of the damage is going to be more from the excess water that it it is currently standing from coming out of creeks as opposed to wind damage.”

Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner has declared Grundy and Lee counties disaster areas and has made resources available to help tornado victims.
