Stabenow wants nominees to uphold water quality
Water quality is one of the priorities Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow says Bill Northey, will need to focus on if confirmed as USDA Under Secretary for Farm Production and Conservation, “I represent the Great Lakes colleagues here on the agriculture committee, also represent our Great Lakes system. And, for me, no matter where you are in Michigan you’re no more than six miles away from a body of water. So, protecting our rivers, lakes and streams is incredibly important to me and to the people of Michigan and the others on this committee.”
At the confirmation hearing this morning held by the Senate Agriculture Committee, Stabenow urged Northey to make water quality a priority, “I know you personally understand that agriculture needs to be a part of the solution in addressing water quality issues. And, if confirmed for this role, I urge you to continue to prioritize the protection of our land and our water.”
Stabenow is the top Democrat on the committee. Northey is Ag Secretary of Iowa.
