Stabenow plans to make dairy a priority

The Ranking member of the Senate Ag Committee says addressing dairy in the next farm bill is one of her top priorities.

“We know that dairy prices have fallen dramatically as with other crops and we have some work to do as it relates to our milk producers—so that’s a priority for me.”

Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow tells Brownfield a working farm safety net, crop insurance and cotton will also be key issues to be addressed in the next farm bill.

Stabenow hosted the second farm bill field hearing in Michigan Saturday. She says there will be several more leading up to writing the 2018 bill.  “We will have many, many hearings on the farm bill.  I think that Senator Roberts and I both felt that we should start with field hearings, one in Kansas and one in Michigan to kick things off.”  Stabenow says major hearings will take place in Washington D.C. and she and Roberts still need to discuss future hearings across the country.
