Stabenow plans to introduce urban ag legislation

Hoop house MichiganRanking Member of the Senate Ag Committee Debbie Stabenow plans to introduce an urban agriculture bill this week that she says will build on the work of the last farm bill.

“The goal is to both create new economic opportunities for people, for urban growers and food entrepreneurs and increase access to healthy food as well, and to create sustainable practices that will create a healthier environment.”

She says she hopes the Urban Agriculture Act of 2016 will start the conversation early for including urban agriculture in the 2018 farm bill and provide access to USDA resources.

The American Farm Bureau Federation and National Farmers Union support the measure.
