South Dakota crop development ahead

Hot weather and little rain made for about six days of suitable fieldwork last week in South Dakota.  It allowed for planting to continue in the southeast but left northeastern and western South Dakota without rain where it’s needed most.

Corn and soybean emergence are nearly 100 percent, in line with average. Crop conditions are mostly good to excellent for both corn and soybeans.

Winter wheat development is way ahead of last year and the average, at 90-percent. The crop’s condition is mostly fair to good.

Spring wheat condition is mostly good to excellent.

Oat, barley and sorghum emergence are well ahead of last year and the average.
