Shifting from fieldwork to bookwork

The president of the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association says with fieldwork coming to an end, the focus shifts to bookwork.

Theresia Gillie tells Brownfield her family recently completed harvesting and tillage on their farm near Hallock in Kittson County.

“And now it’s time to deal with the crop in the bin and figure out where the money is.  How much you have and how much you don’t have that you’re maybe going to have to come up with.”

She says many farmers are in a similar situation.

“It’s going to be an interesting financing winter.  I’m hoping that bankers will be very understanding (and) farmers go in early and talk to their bankers and set up a good plan.  Because I think it’s going to be a relatively challenging finance year coming up in the northern (Red River) Valley.”

Gillie says Minnesota Soybean has resources available to assist farmers during this continued down farm economy.
