Sharp cuts expected to federal budget

Thursday the Trump administration’s proposed 2018 budget is expected to be released with widespread sharp cuts making up for an increase in defense spending.

The State Department and U.S. Agency for International Development could see almost 40 percent cuts and EPA’s funding is expected to be 25 percent lower.

Total budget cuts could be as much as $54 billion, while defense spending is expected to see a $54 billion increase. The budget must be approved by Congress to be passed and early indications are Trump’s proposal is dead on arrival.

Economists say the proposed budget includes the largest overall cuts to federal spending in more than 70 years.
