Seven new avian flu cases reported in Iowa

eggsAnother four million egg laying hens are part of the latest avian flu announcement from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship.

The hens come from two separate commercial laying operations in Wright County—one with an estimated 2.9 million birds, the other with 1.1 million.

Five more Iowa turkey farms have also been hit with the disease, including two in Buena Vista County and one each in Cherokee, Sac and Palo Alto counties.  Estimates of the number of turkeys infected are still pending.

The seven new cases bring Iowa’s total of avian flu cases to 44.
