Senator vows for Midwestern influence in farm bill discussions

An Indiana Senator has vowed to make sure there is a strong Midwestern influence as discussions begin on the 2018 Farm Bill.

Joe Donnelly is a member of the Senate Ag Committee. “I’m going to make sure our voice is heard and our voice is respected,” he says.  “And that any farm bill that is put together reflects the hopes and dreams of Indiana farmers also.”

He tells Brownfield the upcoming farm bill hearings are an opportunity for agriculture and Rural America’s questions and concerns to be addressed.  “My wisdom comes from our farmers and our ag community,” he says.  “What I’m trying to do is to make sure that when we put this farm bill together it reflects the thoughts, the ideas, and the common sense wisdom of Indiana’s farmers.”

Donnelly says he plans to hold several state-wide listening sessions over the next few months.

The first Senate Ag Committee farm bill field hearing is February 23 in Manhattan, Kansas.
