Senate vote on Secretary of Ag nominee scheduled

The vote to confirm Sonny Perdue as Secretary of Agriculture has been pushed to the end of the month.  The full Senate will vote on April 24, after they return from their upcoming two-week Easter recess.

According to Agri-Pulse, Senate leaders scheduled the vote after Democrats blocked action on Perdue this week.

Debbie Stabenow of Michigan, the ranking member of the Senate Ag Committee, says she strongly supports Perdue and while disappointed the full Senate did not vote to confirm him this week – she’s pleased the Senate will move his confirmation forward on the Monday they return into session.

The Senate Ag Committee voted to advance Perdue’s nomination at the end of March

  • Governor Sonny Perdue is a great man and will do an incredible job. I run into him and one of his grandchildren in Publix a good bit (in Georgia). He is smart, honest and God-fearing. I would like to see him take office. He will do a great job.
