Senate Ag Committee leadership reacts to Perdue nomination

The head of the Senate Ag Committee says the next ag secretary needs to do everything within their power not to return to the farming conditions of the 1980s.

Pat Roberts of Kansas and Ranking member Debbie Stabenow of Michigan say they look forward to meeting with Trump’s nominee, Sonny Perdue.

Roberts says the most important quality for the ag secretary is a solid understanding of the economic challenges farmers and ranchers face as the 2018 farm bill is written.

Stabenow says it is imperative that the next secretary is ready on day-one to support the nation’s food producers and local communities while protecting land, water, and wildlife habitats, and ensuring all Americans have access to healthy food.
