Ricketts opens Nebraska Governor’s Ag Conference

The Nebraska Governor’s Ag Conference is underway in Kearney.  In his opening address on Tuesday, Governor Pete Ricketts said in order for Nebraska to grow, agriculture must grow.

“If you look at agriculture as a whole here in the state, it’s about 20 percent of our overall state GDP. It is the biggest contributor to our growth here in the state,” Ricketts said. “If we don’t grow agriculture, we’re not going to grow the rest of the state.”

Ricketts listed three ways he’s working to grow the state’s ag industry.

“One is to have ag friendly policies, like in regards to animal agriculture. We also want to open up opportunities for exports. And, of course, we’re also continuing to look at tackling some of the big issues in agriculture–property taxes, for example.”
