Red Gold Stewardship award presented to Indiana, Ohio farmers

Two Indiana and Ohio farmers have received the Red Gold Stewardship Award for their commitment to using good stewardship practices.

Harold and Tom Parker of H&T Parker Farms in LaPorte, Ind. and Chris McDonnall of McDonnall Farms in Delta, Ohio, were recognized for their commitment to conservation.

Parker uses conservation practices like vertical tillage and cover crops to grow corn, seed corn, and tomatoes.

McDonnall raises corn and soybeans and has been growing tomatoes and uses cover crops, grass filter strips, and water and sediment control basins to protect the soil and water.

The farmers were honored during a ceremony at Red Gold’s corporate headquarters in Elwood, Ind. earlier this month.

Parker received a $1,000 scholarship and the option of shipping an extra truck load of tomatoes per day during harvest. McDonnall received $500 and the option to send an extra half truck load per day during harvest.
