Record wheat yields reported in the Great Plains
It’s been a record year for many wheat growers in the Great Plains.
Brent Robertson, who farms near the town of Elsie in southwest Nebraska, says the average yield across all of his non-irrigated fields is the best he’s ever had.
“(In the) 60’s, 70’s—some 80 bushel wheat,” Robertson says, “and test weight was pretty good for the most part—61, 62 (pounds per bushel).”
The only negative, Robertson says, was the low protein content.
“There’s a lot of 9 and 10 protein wheat,” he says.
Robertson finished his wheat harvest earlier this week.
