Projections for county level crop insurance payments

Ag economists with the University of Illinois and Ohio State University have estimated Agricultural Risk Coverage payments for 2016 at the county level.

The largest payment for corn acres is expected to occur in the eastern United States with over $60 per base acre in many parts of Ohio and Michigan. Large payments are expected throughout the Ohio River Valley, including Indiana and Illinois, and some counties in the bootheel of Missouri.  Parts of South Dakota and Nebraska are also expected to receive larger payments.  Economists estimate many counties in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin and Minnesota will not receive payments.

Most soybean producing counties in the Midwest are not expected to receive ARC payments.

Many counties in the U.S. are estimated to have payments for wheat, with the exception of the heart of the wheat belt which includes Nebraska.

Projections are based on USDA NASS’s county yield data for 2016 and an average of $3.50 per bushel for corn, $9.60 for soybeans and $3.85 for wheat.

Economists caution final yields used by the Farm Service Agency can differ from NASS and price levels are not finalized until the end of the marketing year in August.
