Producers get DairyPRIDE update from Sen. Baldwin

Brian Forrest of Maple Ridge Dairy explains parlor operations to Senator Tammy Baldwin

The Wisconsin Senator who authored the DairyPRIDE Act says the bipartisan bill is moving slowly in Washington but is very much alive and she’s pushing for its passage. Baldwin tells Brownfield, “We are working several angles to move it forward.  One is just to get the bill passed on its own, but I’ve been also working to advance it in the context of the agriculture appropriations measure and other things that are moving through the process.”

Senator Tammy Baldwin’s bill would restrict imitation products from using dairy terms like “milk” and “cheese.” Dairy producers attending a meeting with Baldwin at Maple Ridge Dairy near Stratford, Wisconsin last Friday support the DairyPRIDE act.  One of them is Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin board member Brian Forrest.  He says, “That milk is our brand out here.  We work very hard.  We take a lot of pride in the quality of our product, and to have it being used by non-animal products is not right.”

Baldwin tells Brownfield the DairyPRIDE law is needed because the Food and Drug Administration refuses to enforce existing regulations prohibiting plant-based products from using dairy terms on their labels.
