Preparing livestock producers for the VFD

The next step in Veterinary Feed Directive begins January 1 and the Farm Foundation is helping livestock producers of all sizes prepare.

The organization’s president Constance Cullman says they are helping livestocks producers better understand the complexities of the Veterinary Feed Directive before it goes into effect January 1.

Cullman says complying with the VFD will require livestock producers to change their production practices and change how they do paperwork.  “Which is one of the big concerns producers have,” she says.  “Navigating that paperwork and those requirements.”

She tells Brownfield producers will need to work closely with their veterinarian.  “That’s one of the things we’re really recommending,” Cullman says.  “Have an understanding of how it (the VFD) impacts you, who you can go to for resources and information, and then how do you integrate that into your operation.”

Cullman says the Farm Foundation has a developed a one-stop tool that provides information, details on the regulations, and even connect producers with veterinarians in their area.  It is is available HERE.
