Pork in cold storage down on year, new record low for bellies

U.S. pork and beef stocks during February posted year to year declines.

The USDA says pork in cold storage was down 9% on the year at 571.966 million pounds, with high production levels limited by good domestic and export demand. That included a 74% drop in pork bellies to a new all-time monthly low to 16.152 million pounds.

Beef stocks were down 1% from last year’s record high, at 502.429 million pounds.

Poultry in cold storage was up 2% on the year at 1.171 billion pounds with a 2% decline in chicken to 786.774 million canceled out by an 11% increase in turkey to 378.471 million pounds.
