Plan for animal rights activists at shows

h2014-Grand-champ-steer-Illinois-state-fairIt’s livestock showing season and the Animal Agriculture Alliance says preparing for interruptions by activists is crucial. Hannah Thompson, AAA communications director, tells Brownfield Ag News animal rights activists have disrupted a number of events this year, “The Pennsylvania farm show, they’re opening ceremony back in January was actually disrupted by these same animal rights activists while the governor of Pennsylvania was appearing. So, it’s not just mainstream events that this is happening at – it has happened at ag events.”

She says youth programs are on activists’ radar, “Four-H and FFA have been targeted by these activists groups and, obviously, 4-H and FFA are a big part of summer fairs.”

Thompson says make a plan with the right people, ahead of time, Thompson says to watch social media for tips on potential disruptions and to “keep your cool” – don’t take the bait – if it happens.
