Peterson proud to sign off on farm bill dairy provisions

House Ag Committee Ranking Member Collin Peterson suggests improvements in the 2018 Farm Bill will help ease the financial pain dairy farmers are feeling.

“The provisions in this bill will provide expanded, affordable coverage options and more flexibility for dairy farmers.  And I am proud to put my name on this program.”

The new Dairy Margin Coverage program that replaces MPP offers reduced premiums and the ability to insure margins above $8 dollars.

The Minnesota Democrat says in his home state and in neighboring Wisconsin, an average of two dairies are going out of business every day.

“The economic downturn in farm country has hit the dairy industry probably hardest of all.”

The farm bill has been approved by Congress and awaits the President’s signature.  Current House Ag Committee chair Mike Conaway says he expects Trump will sign the bill soon.
