Perdue to announce USDA reorganization

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue will announce a reorganization of the USDA during a stop in Cincinnati, Ohio today.

The plan includes creation of a new undersecretary position for trade and foreign agricultural affairs, which Perdue says will put more focus on “promoting U.S. food, fiber and fuel around the world.”

The National Pork Producers Council applauds the move. In a statement, NPPC president Ken Maschhoff says the new trade undersecretary will help “preserve and expand foreign market access for U.S. agricultural products.”

According to media reports, the reorganization will also include changes to the departments of rural development and natural resources in the USDA.
