Online tool designed to connect farmers with vets

An online resource can help livestock farmers find veterinarians in their area.

National Pork Board president Jan Archer says the board partnered with Global Vet Link to develop and expand their Find-A-Vet service for livestock producers.

“This is in response to some of the new FDA guidences, 209 and 213, and people needing to have a good, strong veterinary client-patient relationship for their herds,” says Archer.

Archer tells Brownfield farmers can access the service for free and can search for vets for any animal species on the farm.

“I could search just for a veterinarian who specializes in cattle, I could search for a general large animal veterinarian, I could search for a veterinarian who specializes in poultry. It does break it down that way,” says Archer.

Archer says it’s important for producers to establish long-term partnerships with their veterinarians before the FDA Veterinary Feed Directive goes into effect in 2017.

More information about Find-A-Vet can be found through the National Pork Board.
