Ohio Senator says GLRI is working as is

The Co-chair the Senate Great Lakes Task Force says funding in the Great Lakes is working.

Ohio Senator Rob Portman say the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative is cost effectively using federal, state, local and private funding to help keep the lakes clean. He recently toured restored wetland projects and research sites funded by the initiative.  “We talked about keeping the load of nitrogen and phosphorus out, which helps to reduce the harmful algal blooms, and we talked about keeping the invasive species out.”

Portman is strongly opposed to the Trump Administration’s proposed cuts to eliminate funding for the GLRI and says he will continue to fight to support the program.
