Ohio planting progress: 73% corn; 43% soybeans

Mother Nature cooperated early in the week to help Ohio farmers make significant planting progress, but scattered showers toward the end of the week further delayed any field activities.

According to the latest weekly Crop and Weather report 73 percent of the corn crop has been planted, a 24 percent jump from the previous week with 41 percent of the crop emerged.  Soybeans are 43 percent planted, 24 percent more than a week ago, with 17 percent emerged.

Ninety-six percent of the oats crop has been planted with 85 percent emerged, and 65 percent of the crop is rated good to excellent.

The winter wheat crop is advancing with 97 percent jointing, 81 percent headed, and 81 percent rated in good to excellent condition.

Eighty-three percent of pasture and ranges are rated good to excellent.
