Not many disappointments in south-central Minnesota

Rob Wentz

A seed account manager in southcentral Minnesota says there were very few disappointing yields in his area this year.

Rob Wentz with Peterson Farms Seed tells Brownfield even hail-damaged crops near Hutchinson did surprisingly well.

“I think there’s a lot to be thankful for.  Could it have been better in that area?  Absolutely.  But considering the straight-line winds, all the rain and hail…I think everybody’s going to be in pretty good shape.”

He says growers near Ogilvie and Mora had exceptional yields.

“They were seeing yields up there that many of those growers had never seen before with their corn and soybeans, and it was because of adequate moisture.”

Wentz says the other garden spot in his territory was around New Ulm and Nicollet where record yields were common.
