Northey, Ibach nominated to top USDA posts
It’s official—Bill Northey and Greg Ibach are headed to the USDA.
After months of speculation, President Trump announced late today the nominations of Nebraska ag director Ibach as Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs (MRP) and Iowa ag secretary Northey as Under Secretary for Farm Production and Conservation (FPAC).
The Under Secretary for MRP oversees three USDA agencies: the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service; the Agricultural Marketing Service; and the Grain Inspection, Packers, and Stockyards Administration. The Under Secretary for FPAC also oversees three USDA agencies: the Farm Service Agency, Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the Risk Management Agency.
Trump also announced Stephen Vaden as the nominee to be USDA’s General Counsel. Vaden has been serving as Acting General Counsel in the USDA since March.
In a statement, Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue urged the Senate to take up the nominations as quickly as possible.
“This is especially important given the challenges USDA will face in helping Texans and Louisianans recover from the devastation of Hurricane Harvey,” Perdue said.
