New drone rules open up possibilities

New rules go into effect today for small unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones, which can expand their use in agriculture. Joe Mora with the FAA says the rules might sound restrictive, but, “The demand that we’ve seen and the operations that can be conducted, especially in the farming industry – this opens up a whole new world of possibilities.”

The new rule expands the hours of daylight operation of drones. And, there are now waivers and exemptions for things like line of sight, airspace and altitude and use in the evening.

One thing drones must do, he says, is yield the right of way to manned aerial vehicles.
