FB official hopes GMO labeling issue ‘is put to rest’

The president of Nebraska Farm Bureau says he hopes that issue of GMO labeling will be put to rest once President Obama signs the GMO labeling bill into law.

Steve Nelson says that while the legislation in not perfect, it does allow for the continued development and investment in crop technologies in agriculture, due in part to the national uniformity it provides regarding GMO labeling. Nelson says while Farm Bureau still believes the mandatory nature of the bill is unnecessary, the potential costs to consumers, farmers and ranchers of a state-by-state patchwork of labeling laws forced them to support the measure passed by Congress.

  • This is FALSE. Putting four little words, “contains genetically modifed ingredients” on the label would provide the consumer the information they want to be an informed consumer. There is NO patchwork of labeling laws. 90% of the American people want this. Those that have no problem with GMOs will not care. Those that do, will be able to decide whether or not to buy the product. Let the consumer decide without having to jump through hoops to do it. Not everyone has a smartphone, and even less probably have the time for this.

  • This is nowhere near over. We are just getting started protecting the integrity of food. Food manufacturers across America might want to consider that millions of mothers already assume, that if it does not say organic or non GMO Project verified, we won’t buy it. We DO NOT WANT foreign protein GMOs in our food and the related toxic chemicals like Roundup, 2,4-D, Atrazine, and Dicamba. We NEVER will, and as soon as we find out, we won’t buy conventional food. This is exactly why the Farm Bureau does not want GMO labeled clearly on the package. Citizens across America are sick of the lies and corruption in BIG Ag, Big Pharma, The EPA, USDA, CDC and Whitehouse. We will protect our families and we will continue to educate our communities to opt of of the toxic chemical farming and pharmaceutical drug profit circle and choose healthy organic and eco agriculture instead.
