Nebraska attorney general Doug Peterson is applauding President-elect Donald Trump’s pick of Oklahoma attorney general Scott Pruitt to be the next administrator of the EPA.

“We’ve worked with General Pruitt on several matters and I’ve gotten to know him personally,” Peterson says. “I think he’s an excellent appointment.”

Peterson says Pruitt is committed to individual property rights.

“In a priority that goes, individual property rights, state rights–and the last would be any type of federal authority on those issues,” says Peterson. “Scott has been very consistent among the attorney generals fighting against, particularly, the EPA and the type of overreach that they’ve done affecting property rights.”

Pruitt strongly opposed the EPA’s Clean Water Act rule, also known as Waters of the U.S., and Peterson says it’s possible Pruitt will withdraw the rule all together.

“You could see possibly the EPA withdrawing its attempts to redefine their authority under the Waters of the U.S.”

We spoke with Peterson at the Nebraska Cattlemen’s annual meeting in Kearney.
