NCBA continues push for TPP passage

The president of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, Tracy Brunner, says passage of the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement is NCBA’s top priority.

“We’ve got expanding supplies and we need expanded market access for these growing supplies of beef and competitive proteins here in the United States,” Brunner says. “TPP would give us expanded access to about 40 percent of the world’s economy and level the playing field in our biggest market, Japan.”

Both U.S. presidential candidates have been critical of TPP, but Brunner remains optimistic.

“The national election has taken on a little bit of populist rhetoric on both sides of the ticket. But we believe, post-election, a strong sense of common sense will return to the legislative and congressional process—and we believe there will be a vote sometime this fall on TPP,” Brunner says.

Brunner spoke with Brownfield from the recent Cattle Industry Summer Conference in Denver.
