NBB asks for higher biodiesel RVO

The National Biodiesel Board (NBB) is working with the Trump Administration to increase the renewable volume obligations (RVO) for biodiesel.

NBB vice president of federal affairs Anne Steckel says the organization is optimistic President Trump and his team support the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS).

“It’s a law that has really helped our industry grow and diversify.  The EPA administers to set the volume obligations for the use of renewable fuels like biodiesel.  So we work with the administration and EPA and talk to them about the benefits of biodiesel, and why we think our numbers should increase on a yearly basis.”

The RFS mandates a minimum of one billion gallons of biodiesel annually, with the possibility of higher usage.

“So that’s what we go through is this yearly rule-making process where we (tell the Administration) we’re good for the environment, we benefit jobs, we do all these things (so) you should raise our number.  So that’s how we get our number every year.”

Last year the RVO for biodiesel was 2.1 billion gallons, and NBB is asking for 2.75 billion this year.

Brownfield interviewed Steckel during NAFB’s Washington Watch Monday.
