National FFA names American Star finalists

The National FFA Organization has announced the finalist for its top achievement awards for 2017.  The American Star Awards recognizes FFA members who have developed outstanding skills through the completion of their supervised agricultural experience program.

Finalists for the American Star Farmer are Joseph Arnold of Minnesota (Lac qui Parle Valley FFA Chapter); Nickolas James Vollmer of Colorado (the Merino FFA Chapter); Jake Fanning of Oklahoma (Laverne FFA Chapter); and Mark Cavallero of California (Madera FFA Chapter).

Finalists for the Star in Agribusiness are Nathan DeYoung of Indiana (Shenandoah FFA); Austin Nordyke of Kansas (Hugoton FFA Chapter); Audra Montgomery of North Dakota (Carrington FFA Chapter); and Shaun Wenrick of Ohio (Anna FFA).

Finalists for the Star in Agricultural Placement are Matthew Ries of Wisconsin (Lomira FFA Chapter); Devin Debruhl of Indiana (Shenandoah FFA Chapter); Kellie Mae Einck of Iowa (South O’Brien FFA); and Bailey Wilson of Texas (Pilot Point FFA Chapter).

Finalists for the Star in Agriscience are Chrysta Beck of Ohio (Pettisville FFA Chapter); Elizabeth Baker-Mikesell of Pennsylvania (Greenwood FFA); Leah Heft of Indiana (DeKalb FFA); and Loren King of Michigan (Branch Area Career Centers FFA).

Judges will interview finalists and select one winner for each award at the 90th National FFA Convention October 25-28 in Indianapolis.  Winners will be announced on Thursday, October 26.
