Missouri Farm Bureau members meet lawmakers
Missouri Farm Bureau members are hearing from and talking to their elected representatives this week. Legislative affairs director BJ Tanksley tells Brownfield some state lawmakers address members.
“And then also we’ll go to the Capitol and try to take our policies to them and talk to them about some of the issues that matter to our members most,” Tanksley told Brownfield Ag News.
Missouri Farm Bureau President Blake Hurst says it’s important that Farm Bureau members visit the Capitol to talk to their legislators so that the elected official is clear about what constituents need. But Hurst says the visits also serve another purpose.
“We don’t often think about it but, our representatives come up here and they’re away from their families in a strange place doing the people’s work,” said Hurst, “and I think sometimes just a friendly face from home can help their week go better as well, so it’s important to talk about issues, but also just to reestablish the friendships that our members have with their elected representatives.”
