Missouri Farm Bureau, livestock groups approve of Chinn Ag Director appointment

The Missouri Farm Bureau and Missouri Cattlemen’s Association approve of Chris Chinn to be the state’s new Director of Agriculture.  Missouri Farm Bureau President Blake Hurst says the organization is pleased with Governor-Elect Greitens’ choice.  Hurst calls Chinn a respected, nationally-known advocate for agriculture and an exceptional appointment to head Missouri’s Department of Agriculture.

Chinn serves on the Missouri Farm Bureau Board and is also a former chairperson of the American Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee.  Hurst also has praise for Missouri’s current Director of Agriculture, Richard Fordyce, for what Hurst calls excellent leadership and service to Missouri agriculture.

Missouri Pork Executive Vice President Don Nikodim says Chinn’s outreach through social media has been an asset to livestock producers.

“There are a lot of folks that really don’t understand modern production agriculture and the length that people go to to make sure we’re doing a good job,” Nikodim told Brownfield Ag News Wednesday.  “The Chinns are a classic example of doing things right; they just have a great operation up there and Chris has been the one that’s been very proud to tell that story.”

Missouri Cattlemen’s Association (MCA) President Keith Stevens expressed support for Governor-Elect Greitens’ selection.  Stevens says Chinn is an unwavering advocate and spokesperson for agriculture.  He says Chinn has been instrumental in educating consumers about how farmers and ranchers care for their animals, land and resources.

Chris Chinn and her husband Kevin raise hogs, cattle, hay and row-crops on their Northeast Missouri farm near Clarence.

Chinn has to be confirmed by the Missouri Senate.
