Missouri A-G: WOTUS repeal helps farmers

An attorney general in one of the lead states that fought against the Obama administration Waters of the U.S. Rule (WOTUS) applauds the EPA for putting it to rest.

Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley says it’s time to start “protecting the farmers and ranchers” who feed the families of this nation and the world. Hawley says the rule was anti-agriculture and would have given the federal government the power to regulate any body of water on farmland – including “isolated streams, 100-year floodplains and roadside ditches.”

The lawsuit against the EPA and Army Corps of Engineers was originally filed by former Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster and attorneys’ general in 13 other states, including Nebraska and South Dakota. Iowa joined the lawsuit in 2015.

The EPA on Tuesday said it would rescind and replace the WOTUS rule with a new clean water rule.
