Minnesota Soybean partners with Discovery show to promote biodiesel

The Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council is partnering with the stars of Discovery Channel’s “Diesel Brothers” to promote biodiesel.

Council chair Keith Schrader says the popular show presents unique opportunities to educate consumers as B20 becomes more widely available.

“We thought those guys would be a great group to work with biodiesel, and we wanted them to build a truck for us that runs on B20.”

The Council is also working with Ford, who will provide the vehicle to be used as a farm service truck.

Schrader tells Brownfield Discovery is excited to introduce biodiesel to their audience.

“They like to promote things that you would call green (and) renewable.  So it’s pretty exciting for them, and we’re going to get some national exposure on this as well.”

Shrader says biodiesel contributed roughly $1.7 billion to Minnesota’s economy last year, and a recent study shows B10 enhances the price of soybeans more than 60 cents per bushel.

Promotional events for the Minnesota biodiesel truck include appearances at Farmfest in early August and the Minnesota Ag Expo next January.
