Minnesota Legislature misses another deadline

The Minnesota Legislature missed another deadline as lawmakers attempt to finish the 2017 legislative session.

After failing to reach agreement on a number of bills ahead of the May 22nd adjournment date, Governor Dayton requested an immediate special session to conclude no later than seven o’clock this morning.

However, Minnesota Farmers Union director of government relations Thom Petersen tells Brownfield the Bonding, Transportation, and Health Care bills have yet to see action.

He says progress has been made on the Tax bill, passed by the House but not yet by the Senate.

The legislation includes a 40 percent tax credit on ag land going towards school bond debt levies, as well as a Beginning Farmer credit.

Petersen says legislators and Governor Dayton are working hard and he hopes they can finish later today.
