Minnesota Extension awarded grants targeting rural concerns

University of Minnesota Extension has received nearly $1 million dollars in federal grants to focus on concerns in rural Minnesota.

The USDA is awarding Extension’s Center for Community Vitality $500,000 dollars to study how communities in Greater Minnesota can recruit and retain residents to supply their workforces.

A separate grant of more than $499,000 dollars is being given to the Extension Regional Sustainable Development Partnerships to develop and pilot a new distribution model for small and medium-sized farms to access wholesale markets.

Dean of Extension Bev Durgan says the grants recognize the University’s commitment to all of Minnesota and the skillful researchers and educators whose work will help to understand how to meet important needs throughout the state and beyond.
