Minnesota Department of Ag has received 35 dicamba complaints

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has received more than 30 complaints of dicamba drift injury.

MDA senior communications officer Allen Sommerfeld confirmed the report, telling Brownfield investigations are ongoing.

University of Minnesota Extension educator Dave Nicolai says symptoms of dicamba drift to sensitive crops typically don’t appear for at least two weeks.

“I think we’re going to be more aware of it here this next week (and) going forward, as more people see it.  It doesn’t necessarily mean the applications are occurring today, but have occurred previous to this.”

Nicolai tells Brownfield people who suspect damage to plants from dicamba drift have a limited amount of time to contact the Department of Ag.

“The clock always is running on there, I know it’s a 45 day period for people to make those arrangements.  But certainly if there’s going to be any testing of material, the sooner the better in terms of picking up any amount of reside in plant tissue.”

Sommerfeld says as of July 20th, the Minnesota Department of Ag has fielded 35 dicamba complaints.

Sommerfeld adds he cannot comment on whether the state has any plans to regulate the herbicide’s use.

  • I am a victim also of dicamba moving off target to my food grade Non GMO soybeans.
2 fields in different location, 3 different producers that applied the dicamba .
It is one thing to talk about loss of yield but the other concern is the dicamba residue into the seed and if it will become positive in Non GMO testing.

So far I can not find were I need to report this to MN Dep. Ag
